Well, this is an unexpected update.

Cycling yesterday went incredibly well. Good fun and a great cycle route. Lots of high quality tarmac cycle way with no traffic.

Arrived at Beith mid-afternoon, and got settled into my room at the Saracen Inn, which was basic but clean and pleasant.

Had a lovely Chinese takeaway (I highly recommend the Mr Chef takeaway in Beith).

This morning I got a tasty breakfast bacon and egg roll from the bakery just up the road, and set off.

Ten minutes later, the chain slipped of my front derailleur, letting the pedals spin freely. My right foot slipped off the pedal and my foot and leg went backwards and under the trike.

I was doing about 20-25mph at the time; turns out my foot makes an excellent foot-break!

A Good Samaritan called Lesley stopped and helped get me out of the trike and onto the side of the road. My folks came and took me to the A&E.

I got seen in fairly short order, although amusingly the hospital records still had me living at my old address from Glasgow, which we left nearly thirty years ago!

An X-ray of my ankle and foot shows no broken bones, just soft tissue damage. It’s pretty swollen and sore, and I have to keep gently moving and rotating my ankle while giving it rest for 48 hours.

Looks like plans may have to change!
